Creative process

01 — Body & Space

The project began by exploring how the body encounters the everyday architecture of Kunsthochschule Kassel. Gestures associated with rest, care, massage, and physical support were transferred into shared spaces, allowing the body to lean, press, hang, and adapt itself to architectural structures.

These actions became a way of observing how intimate bodily needs negotiate with spaces not originally designed for them.

02 — Filming

The performances were developed through direct encounters with different locations rather than through a fixed choreography. Many movements emerged intuitively from the physical conditions of each space.

Through filming, these temporary encounters became material that could be observed from different distances and perspectives. The camera was not only documenting the actions, but also reframing the relationship between body, architecture, and public visibility.

03 — Installation & Sculpture

The recorded material was later developed into a two-channel video installation. Rather than presenting a linear narrative, the two images move between synchronization and separation, creating different perspectives on the same body and environment.

Alongside the video, the sculpture translates the idea of bodily support into a physical object. Together, video and sculpture extend the original performances into the exhibition space, shifting the work from documented actions toward a spatial encounter.

Neigung zur Abgeschiedenheit (Publicly Alone/ 公然地獨處) explores the relationship between care, visibility, and the migrant body in shared public space. Drawing on everyday gestures of bodily care, the work examines how intimacy becomes performative in public, blurring the boundaries between private ritual and collective experience. Through repetitive actions, it reflects on belonging, vulnerability, and presence within unfamiliar cultural environments.

Combining sculpture with a two-channel video installation, the work creates a dialogue between multiple perspectives rather than a linear narrative. The sculptural element extends the performative body into space, inviting viewers to reconsider the relationship between body, object, and environment.

Developed during my studies at Kunsthochschule Kassel, the work premiered at Rundgang 2026. A condensed two-minute single-channel version was later selected for the 43rd Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival (Kassel Dokfest 2026) and will be screened in the Short Film Programme in November 2026.
